North American Bancard CEO Marc Gardner was a guest panelist Thursday at the Crain’s Salute to Entrepreneurs breakfast. At the event, Gardner and other local CEO’s talked about their successes taking on larger corporations in their fields. Gardner shared his advice for small business owners, and gave a little background on how North American Bancard has achieved success over the years.

In addition to the panel, winners of this year’s Crain’s Salute to Entrepreneurs were presented awards.

The following is an excerpt from the Crain’s article about the event:

Entrepreneurs can make their own David vs. Goliath success stories if they put quick-decision making and differentiation to good use — and spot industry trends early, said panelists at a Thursday Crain’s event.
“We know who we are. We know who we aren’t,” said Eoin Comerford, president and CEO, Moosejaw Mountaineering. Comerford was one of three entrepreneurs who spoke on a David vs. Goliath panel at the Crain’s Salute to Entrepreneurs breakfast moderated by Daniel Duggan, managing editor of custom and special projects at Crain’s. The event also recognized the six winners of the 2014 Crain’s Salute to Entrepreneurs awards. It was held at The Henry in Dearborn.
…Marc Gardner, founder, North American Bancard LLC and PayAnywhere LLC, said the Troy-based company differentiated itself from larger financial services companies by nimble decision-making. Some large organizations are paralyzed waiting for board decisions, while his company had access to capital and quick decision-making on its side in rollout to merchant customers.
PayAnywhere’s performance has exceeded expectations by all metrics, he said. North American Bancard is a processor of credit card payments, processing $16 billion of transactions annually for more than 250,000 merchants nationwide.
